I started taking photographs when I was a kid in high school and I loved the ability to capture moments in time to share with others. While still in high school I worked professionally as a photographer for the local newspaper. I continued to photograph my favorite scenes throughout life with the idea that someday I would share them with others, but the right time never seemed to come. Finally, after successfully mastering several other careers, I decided it was time to make this happen. I invested several thousand dollars and upgraded my equipment and I began earnestly taking landscape and wildlife photos. I like taking pictures in the high Sierra Nevada mountains where I live but I also travel to other areas to get that perfect shot. ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: STONE CRANE IN FOLIAGE
Ferndale which is situated in Humbolt County is the northern gateway to California’s Lost Coast. The city contains hundreds of well-preserved Victorian storefronts and homes. One of best examples of these is the Gingerbread Mansion also known as the Ring Mansion located at 400 Berding Street which is currently operating as a wonderful bed and breakfast hotel. My wife and I were fortunate enough to stay there on a trip up the coast of California and Oregon. The area is a photographer’s dream with its lush foliage and muted lighting. I went out several times photographing the area while we were there. Usually I would take long walks looking for that perfect shot and never stay too close to the mansion but I would return disappointed. One morning when heading out I noticed this one area of the mansion garden I had never seen before and there was this stoic stone crane perfectly framed with the surrounding foliage and I captured this shot. If you ever have a chance to visit this area the Gingerbread Mansion should be a definite item on your itinerary.
